What is PSR/RPS Canada?
PSR Canada is a professional organization that provides the competencies for a Community of Practice for individuals and organizations dedicated to the principles, values and delivery of recovery oriented services. We share learnings from others' endeavours, sponsor educational webinars and meetings, and promote local involvement and support for members through geographical chapters across Canada.
Since 2013, the organization has maintained a Competencies of Practice for Canadian Recovery Oriented Psychosocial Rehabilitation Practitioners. This document is compiled through the Scientific Committee of the organization using evidenced based and promising practices. Many of the members of the scientific committee are post secondary educators and by combining their knowledge base, they provide the information that demonstrates how recovery is successful using the tools of psychosocial rehabilitation.
A national certification program is available for people who want to demonstrate their skills in practising recovery oriented services, Certified PSR Recovery Recovery Practitioner, CPRRP. A list of current practitioners is can be seen here.
Using the Competency document and the Mental Health Commission of Canada's Guidelines for Recovery Oriented Practice, applicants for the CPRRP demonstrate through a paper of 1000 - 1250 of words their familiarity with the recovery and how to practice it. An exam is not used as we focus on the candidate's ability and competency to use psychosocial rehabilitation models in their daily lives.
RECOVERY is NOT a model! It is an individual's wellness journey.
